Overview
During the summer of 2020 I had the opportunity to intern at IBM Ottawa's design studio, where I contributed to the user experience (UX) of key components for Cognos Analytics, their AI-powered business analytics platform. This experience bridged the gap between my academic and personal design learning by allowing me to directly influence a large-scale digital product. It was a true catalyst for my design career, giving me invaluable firsthand experience in the field.
What I Did
As a new designer, I embraced the opportunity to learn from different design teams in the studio. By collaborating on various projects, I gained exposure to a wider range of design tasks.
Main Projects
UX Improvements on the dashboard
I joined the dashboard team to identify and propose UX enhancements for both creating and using dashboards. Leveraging my fresh perspective as a first-time user, I focused on improving the filter section, making it more intuitive for new users.
Updating the user interface as per IBM's design system Carbon
I contributed to a major initiative to migrate Cognos Analytics' user interfaces to IBM's Carbon design system. While ensuring pixel-perfect replication to maintain consistency, I actively looked for opportunities to enhance the user experience within the design system's guidelines.
Led design thinking workshops with key stakeholders to redesign the Analytics community web page.
Leveraging virtual sketching sessions, I collaborated with IBM Analytics stakeholders to gather requirements for a new online community hub supporting Cognos Analytics customers. Through iterative design cycles informed by user feedback, I helped shape a user-friendly platform that fosters engagement and knowledge sharing.
Other Works
Prototypes for customer onboarding and marketing teams
I developed a compelling prototype that visualizes the customer onboarding flow and interactions with IBM's analytics product suite. This visualization proved instrumental in analyzing user engagement opportunities and potential gaps between different products.
Participated in a design challenge using IBM's AI Watson on the product
Proposed a predictive AI that scans news articles to assist with relevant dashboards in a team of developers, architects, and designers. I created the interfaces and prototype for the proposed product.
Heuristics review for the research team
I conducted heuristics tests for areas of the product using Nielson Norman's heuristics.
Intern design project
I collaborated with other interns on using IBM's enterprise design thinking methodology and applying it to spark ideas in internal teams.
